The main object of focus of my research is truffles - the macrofungi forming
aromatic underground fruit bodies of which a small minority are highly priced, mythical
delicacies and the vast majority organisms essential in ecosystems. In 1997, during a
University course in Cryptogam Floritics my interest in Mycology arose and since
Fungi are still traditionally considered as part of Botany I later achieved my PhD
in Biology with special emphasis on Systematic Botany. My work has lead to
interdisciplinary studies in Systematics, Population Studies, Ecology, Horticulture
(Truffle Cultivation) and now Chemistry. By using chemical profiling (MS-GC and
MS-LC), data sets for co-analyses with molecular data are created for population
studies as well as for systematic objectives. Chemical profiles also function as as a
first screening in finding new biologically active substances.
Parallell to my research I have initiated the first truffle orchards in Northern Europe, on the
island of Gotland, and the development of a local truffle industy and tradition. In 2008 my book
on truffles in Sweden was published (Infobooks förlag).
